Artigas is the northernmost department of the country, bordering Brazil to the north, from which it is separated by the Cuareim River and to the west by Argentina, from which it is separated by the Uruguay River. This region has several tourist attractions such as the presence of semi-precious stone quarries and archaeological sites but also an important wine-growing activity. We can highlight the Carnival of Artigas, compared to other carnivals in Uruguay, because of its link with Brazilian Samba, being contagious of its rhythm, its color and its atmosphere. Between 20 to 30 thousand people come to testify to this every year, being the pillar of the department’s tourist attraction.
