Colonia

Colonia is the department of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay located in the southwest of the country, on the coast where the Paraná and Uruguay rivers flow, which give way to the Río de la Plata. Located less than 60 km from the center of Buenos Aires, it has a privileged geographical position, being an excellent option for residents and visitors from both sides of the river.

Its capital Colonia del Sacramento was declared by UNESCO “Historical Heritage of Humanity”, being a very cozy and picturesque place, receiving tourists from all over the world. Only 77 kilometers away we can find the exclusive city of Carmelo, a place chosen by many Argentine artists to live, and standing out for its scenic, historical, and ecotourism attractions. Outstanding wine producers have been gaining relevance in wine tourism due to the high quality of their wines, being internationally recognized for the Tannat characteristic variety of Uruguay.

There are also outstanding cities such as Nueva Palmira, Colonia Valdense, Juan Lacaze, Rosario and Colonia Suiza, the latter, as the name says, houses a large community of Swiss emigrants who decided to live in our country, being pioneers in agriculture, they introduced dairy, cheese making and technological innovations. This is how the department acquired leadership in the production and export of its dairy products such as cheese, butter, yogurt, and dulce de leche to the whole world.

We invite you to let yourself be carried away by the typical flavors of the place!
